Here are some of the best places to eat on the island, offering a mix of local, traditional, and international cuisine:
- Chalet Vicente Restaurante – best place for espetado – delicious taste in a nice venue. We went here and can highly recommend
- Il Gallo d’Oro: A Michelin-starred restaurant offering fine dining with Mediterranean and Iberian-inspired dishes, located in the Cliff Bay Hotel.
- Restaurante Armazém do Sal: Housed in a former salt warehouse, this restaurant combines traditional Madeiran and contemporary cuisine in a unique setting.

- Restaurante Do Forte: Situated within the historic Fort of São Tiago, this upscale restaurant offers stunning views and a menu blending Madeiran, Portuguese, and international cuisine.
- A Bica: my favourite place to eat in Madeira. It’s also a local favorite for delicious seafood dishes in a casual setting, perfect for trying fresh grilled fish or the traditional “espada com banana” (scabbard fish with banana). The Espada com banana was absolutely delicious: highly recommended!
- Adega da Quinta: Located in the Quinta do Estreito hotel, this traditional Madeiran restaurant offers a rustic atmosphere and a menu focused on local ingredients.
- Vila do Peixe: A popular seafood restaurant with a seaside location and friendly service.
- Quinta Palmeira: Set in a beautiful garden, this restaurant offers a mix of traditional Madeiran and international cuisine in an elegant atmosphere.
- Restaurante Santo António: Located in the village of Santo António da Serra, this restaurant is known for its delicious grilled meat dishes and authentic Madeiran flavors.
- Taberna da Poncha: Although not a full restaurant, this is a must-visit spot to try the traditional Madeiran drink, Poncha, which is made with aguardente de cana (sugar cane spirit), honey, and lemon.
